Under supervision of the Staff Services Manager (SSM) I, the Staff Services Analyst provides advice, guidance, technical analysis, training, and support to departmental management on personnel issues, personnel policy, employee performance management, progressive discipline, non-punitive actions, and classification and hiring in accordance with appropriate laws, regulations, and policies.

Working Conditions

This position requires travel.

Positions at the CPUC may be eligible for telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, and subject to meeting the telework eligibility criteria.  Telework Policy CalHR

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations to solve complex matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Two years of customer service experience.
  • Knowledge and/ or experience with Performance Management and compliance concepts.
  • Experience with meeting deadlines and ensuring compliance according to rules, regulations and/ or policies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, such as: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience with handling sensitive/ confidential material and information.
  • Experience working with varying levels of executive leadership, management and staff in a collaborative manner.
  • Experience organizing and re-prioritizing workload priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience exercising initiative with assignments and/ or consultation where no definable outline for resolution is available.
  • Experience in providing training and/ or public speaking.
