The Role:
The Electrification and Battery Engineer - GM Defense is the advanced engineering resource that will be responsible for designing and integrating High Voltage Batteries and Electrification systems for military platforms.
The Engineer will work with the Project Leads, Software and Controls engineers, Designers and build teams to oversee the development of a system from requirements to build and testing in a fast-paced environment on government programs as well as special projects. This position requires a combination of technical theory and hands-on skills with the confidence and ability to be self-directed in a small team environment.
This role combines advanced engineering expertise with hands-on development in a fast-paced environment, supporting both government programs and special projects through significant cross-functional collaboration with Project Leads, Software and Controls engineers, Designers and build teams
What You'll Do:
Work with internal and external customers to design and integrate battery pack and electrification systems into military platforms.
Support technical trade-off studies within the battery pack to select optimal designs
Support the integration and balance of sub-systems to optimize the battery pack design while achieving program requirements and timing
Support builds of properties to test as needed.
Support development of controls architecture strategy
Support battery pack calibration of controls, flash controllers and data analysis
Participate in design/peer reviews
Participate in and present updates to Program Reviews as needed
Lead or Support issue resolution
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science degree in in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
Strong product development experience in battery and/or high voltage electrical systems
Experience in Design, Development, Validation and release for automotive electrical/electronic components
Demonstrated ability to “deal with ambiguity” and be a self-starter
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical systems and components.
Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Familiarity with GM Vehicle Control, Calibration, data logging systems and file formats
Familiarity with Vehicle Spy, INCA, dSpace and GMSIM tools
Experience in xIL systems (SIL, HIL, MIL, DIL, etc…)
Experience designing mechanical, thermal, electrical, and fluid systems
Hands-on experience with high voltage battery systems
Experience with high voltage battery related failure modes, design and control mitigation strategies, and root cause analysis.
Experience in CAD Systems
