Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Manager who is passionate about making a meaningful impact. In this role, you will lead day-to-day financial operations and work closely with the Senior Director of Finance to ensure that financial systems run smoothly and efficiently. Your expertise will help support our mission-driven organization in achieving its goals.
As Finance Manager, you'll oversee key accounting activities such as accounts payable, general ledger management, and monthly reporting. You'll also monitor outstanding receivables, ensuring all financial systems are well-integrated across departments, and contribute to building a stable and organized financial structure.
Key Responsibilities
Financial and Accounting Management
Lead daily financial operations, including accounting and accounts payable
Oversee general ledger activities to ensure timely financial reporting
Record all incoming revenue and monitor receivables to keep track of outstanding balances
Assist in the development of the annual budget alongside the Senior Director of Finance
Perform timely and accurate monthly closes
Ensure financial systems are integrated and remain in sync across all platforms
Foster a collaborative, customer-oriented culture across departments
Accounts Payable
Manage accounts payable via Bill.com, ensuring invoices are routed, coded, and paid promptly according to agreements
Process credit card transactions and support other accounting functions through Ramp
Respond to vendor and employee inquiries quickly and professionally
General Ledger
Reconcile monthly bank accounts
Provide training on finance systems as needed and onboard new staff to finance platforms
Track donations, monitor pledges, and update cash-flow projections
Assist with balance sheet reconciliations during the monthly close
Support grant reporting as required
Audit & 990/Tax Support
Assist in preparing for audits and respond to auditor queries
Aid in the preparation of IRS Form 990 and 1099 forms
Maintain filing systems and historical records
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business
Experience
A minimum of four years of relevant experience in finance or accounting roles (e.g., accountant, financial analyst)
Skills and Expertise
Knowledge of fund accounting and GAAP for non-profits
Experience managing multi-source budgets and restricted/unrestricted funds
Proficient in tracking funding streams and ensuring compliance with grant regulations
Strong understanding of IRS non-profit regulations
Experience with financial reporting, including IRS Form 990 and donor reporting
Familiarity with internal controls and audit compliance
Skilled in budgeting, resource allocation, and cost control
Ability to interpret data, analyze financial information, and solve complex problems
Strong commitment to ethical financial practices and decision-making
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Excel, accounting software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools
Additional Requirements
Ability to occasionally work extended hours and weekends, with moderate travel required
Successful reference checks required
Compensation & Benefits
This is a remote position, ideally based near Washington, D.C. or Los Angeles, CA. The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $94,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
