Job Summary

Provide leadership, guidance and support to the team, coordinating their workloads, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the customer. Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, while fostering a culture of working safely.  This position requires good working knowledge of powder coating applications and an eye for quality.

key duties and Responsibilities

• Work to ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery requirements while achieving quality and safety standards.
• Ensure that team members follow SOPs and comply with quality requirements. Responsible for ensuring the paint lineproduces high quality products to specified color/texture.
• Operation of all coating equipment including, guns, and booth.
• Determine paint flow, and coating quality. Perform visual inspections.
• Support full adherence to 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) practices at all times.
• Ensure equipment is functioning correctly.
• Ensure all records are completed accurately, timely and appropriately.
• Ensure that non-conforming material is clearly identified and segregated and approved by supervisor.
• Ensures that escalation for quality concerns is followed.
• Ensure achievement of production throughput against stated capacity targets.
• Ensure the team is aware of day-to-day targets and responsibilities.
• Monitor and maintain all safety equipment and tools.
• Participate in root cause analysis and resolve problems.
• Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities within the team.
• Assist in risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
• Responsible for ensuring operators have been properly trained to SOPs before running equipment.
• Responsible for daily guidance and support for the team to achieve operational success.
• Assist in incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
• Consistently promote high standards through personal example and compliance with company policies/procedures for safety.
• Provide product expertise within team, and respond to operator queries.
• Analyze machine operations and output. Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
• Read work orders and other reports, in order to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and output.
• Test and adjust machine speeds and actions, according to product specifications, and using gauges and hand tools.
• Check machines daily for safety.
• Ensure adherence to all lockout/tag out procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work Experience and Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two years paint/powder coat experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of coating processes including baking at appropriate temperatures and time limitations
• Good knowledge of mechanics and repair of painting equipment.
• Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap and re-work.
• Adherence to company and OSHA health and safety requirements/regulations. (consistent use of PPE)
• May be required to operate powered industrial equipment.
• E10 experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail required.
• Understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
• Ability to read and understand equipment operation manuals, Safety Data Sheets, and other literature as required.
• Basic MS Office skills preferred.
• Basic mathematics skills
• Ability to read blueprints or production schematics is necessary,
• Ability to read English required.
• Critical thinking/problem solving/trouble shooting ability required.
• Prior Lead/Supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Punctual attendance to work is required. This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling or pushing.  Ability to distinguish color.  Good hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are considered essential.  A moderate to high degree of repetitive motions using right, left, or both hands and/or feet may also be required.  Moderate to steady lifting of up to 50lbs. required.  Requires wearing personal protective equipment.  Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes from hot to cold, dust, dirt and chemicals.  Requires working indoors in non-climate controlled conditions.
