Dreamscape Learn, a pioneer in the realm of immersive virtual reality learning design, is actively seeking a  Prop Artist  to craft high-quality, interactive 3D props that bring our virtual worlds to life. You’ll collaborate with a creative team to produce props that not only look amazing but function seamlessly in VR. This is a 1099 contract role.

Role and Responsibilities

• Design, model, and texture high-quality 3D props (both hard-surface and organic) to enhance VR environments.
• Collaborate with environment artists, animators, and designers to ensure props fit within the overall visual and narrative style.
• Optimize prop models and textures for real-time performance while maintaining artistic quality.
• Implement props into the game engine (i.e.,  Unity ), ensuring they are interactive and performant in VR.
• Work with technical artists to troubleshoot and solve issues related to prop integration, shaders, and materials.
• Iterate on designs based on feedback from the art director, team leads, and users.
• Maintain a library of reusable prop assets and tools for future projects.
• Stay up to date on trends, tools, and best practices in prop design for VR and real-time environments.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a 3D artist specializing in props for entertainment (games, film, animation, or VR).
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g.,  Maya ,  Blender , or 3ds Max ).
• Strong skills in  texturing and  material creation using tools like  Substance Painter/Designer and  Photoshop .
• Experience working with  Unity for real-time asset implementation.
• Strong research skills with the ability to source, analyze, and creatively interpret historical, scientific, and existing references to inform artistic work.
• Understanding of real-time optimization techniques for models and textures.
• Excellent sense of proportion, scale, and attention to detail in 3D design.
• Ability to adapt to various artistic styles and maintain consistency across assets.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take and apply feedback constructively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience creating assets optimized for both high-end and low-end devices, ensuring performance and visual quality across various platforms.
• Experience creating interactive or animated props for VR or AR.
• Familiarity with procedural asset generation tools like  Houdini .
• Knowledge of lighting, shaders, and physics for real-time assets.
• Concept art or design experience to assist in brainstorming and prototyping.

Benefits

Monthly rate: $4,000-$5,000 (DOE)
