Job Description

  • This role will include Service Lead responsibilities for the Plastic service line
  • Scrub and circulate multi-specialty surgical cases
  • Direct pre, intra and postoperative patient care in the multi-specialty surgical population
  • Ability to perform constant standing, walking, transporting of patients and equipment required
  • Patient lifting, positioning, pushing, twisting, bending and or transferring required
  • Prepare operating rooms between cases
  • Transport patients as needed 
  • Provide teaching and guidance in the learning environment 
  • Special ordering & maintenance of specific service subspecialities (supplies, DPCs, requests, equipment) 
  • Participate in on-going QA activities 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in MiChart (optime)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in surgical services computer technology (including but not limited to email, Censitrac, Storz, Surgicount, Mobile aspects)
  • Providing direct patient care to adult/pediatric ambulatory surgical population
  • Provide patient/family education
  • Charge nurse responsibilities on unit as assigned
  • Nursing responsibilities are assigned under the clinical supervision of a nurse supervisor/ manager

  • Current Licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan 
  • Recent Operating Room experience (within 2 years) and current adult Plastic experience required.  
  • Advanced scrubbing and circulating experience with multiple adult Plastic service line cases. 
  • Candidates must have expertise in one or more of the following fields:  Plastic, Otolaryngology, Sports Orthopedics, Gynecology. 
  • Current BLS Certification

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. 
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level E.

Hours/Week: 40 hours/week
Shift/Hrs/Days: Day Shift; Monday- Friday, 10 hour shifts.  Hours may be variable based on patient and volume needs, with flexibility required.  This may include weekends and holidays.
Location: Position is currently East Ann Arbor Operating Room 

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
