An Accounting Intern in Risk Product Accounting works alongside the hiring manager and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. Accounting Interns assist with ensuring that financial activity for insurance and annuity products and related field compensation are appropriately accounted for in the general ledger. They manage daily and monthly tasks such as preparing journal entries, system balancing, and account reconciliations. Accounting Interns investigate and resolve variances by working with systems, client services or field services contacts.  There is an opportunity to collaborate on process improvement projects, financial control documentation, and audit requests.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs (minimum qualifications )

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university 
• Completed or currently enrolled in an Intermediate Accounting course
• Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher 
• Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role 

Preferred skills and proficiencies

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability 
• High degree of self-motivation, passion, and a drive to learn 
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Effective oral and written communication skills 

Hours

• Part-time (15-25 hours per week) during school year, and Full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer
• Possibility of additional hours during breaks

Pay rates for internships are determined based on academic tenure and major.

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.
