Annual Wage Range: $92,109.60 - $126,650.70 
Other Compensation: Eligibility for the Short-Term Incentive program and other applicable bonuses

Job Description

The Safety Specialist is a highly visible role which actively promotes and maintains a safe working environment by conducting workplace inspections, investigating safety incidents, developing and implementing safety training programs. The Specialist is part of a dynamic Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Team reporting to the Occupational Process Safety Manager.

 

The Specialist ensures compliance with internal/ external safety regulations and advises management on risk mitigation strategies to prevent injuries and promote employee health and wellbeing.

 

The Safety Specialist is on-site in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD

Responsibilities

  • Leads, develops and implements safety processes, programs and guidelines ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as   well as Grace corporate requirements.
  • Reviews plans, workmanship, construction plans to ensure compliance with corporate and plant procedures.
  • Coordinates contractor inspection and repair work for all fire prevention systems.
  • Leads and/or participates in PSSRs, RCCAs, and JSAs ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Conducts safety violation, incident or unsafe work practice investigations.
  • Facilitates and conducts safety training including instructor led training for mandated topics to site personnel, contractors and visitors
  • Vendor management, including Cintas for Uniforms, Mats and Boots
  • Work with Fastenal for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Assign and maintain locker assignments
  • Develops and leads and/or assists with safety management systems
    • Monthly Safety Meeting Guide
    • Critical Life Safety and Safe Work Permit Training and Administration
    • Maintain safety shower and eyewash stations
    • Gas Detection Equipment Management
    • Fall Protection Equipment Inspection
    • Fire Protection System
  • Serves as Radiation Safety Officer, after mandatory training

Required Qualifications

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in safety, training and industrial hygiene or related operational/maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong demonstrable knowledge of applicable regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc). 
  • Availability for on-call and after-hours work
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Safety/Industrial Hygiene or other technical discipline or equivalent safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in safety, training and industrial hygiene or related operational/maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated experience using computer applications such as MS Office and other specialized support systems
  • Experience working with regulatory compliance in a manufacturing and laboratory setting. 
  • Demonstrated experience providing consultation and advice to a diverse audience effectively.
  • Experience handling multiple compliance tasks and decisions with minimal supervision
