Job Description

Location: Willow Springs R-IV School District


Reports To: Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) and Special Education Director


Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) will support the Speech Language Pathologist in the diagnosis and treatment of communication and speech disorders for students within the Willow Springs R-IV School District. The SLPA will provide direct therapy services, assist in data collection, and contribute to the development of educational materials aimed at enhancing students' communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Speech Language Pathologist in the implementation of individual and group therapy sessions designed to improve students’ speech and language abilities.
  • Conduct screening assessments for students as directed by the SLP to identify communication needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and collect data to reflect performance and outcomes for each therapy session.
  • Prepare and organize therapy materials and resources in alignment with the IEP goals and objectives.
  • Provide support to students in the classroom setting, fostering a positive learning environment and encouraging communication and interaction with peers.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to discuss the students’ progress and suggest strategies to support communication skills in various environments.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as required to enhance skills and knowledge related to speech and language services.
  • Adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines surrounding confidentiality and student privacy.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as needed to provide input on student progress and therapy outcomes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders, Speech Language Pathology Sciences.
  • Appropriate certification/licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant as defined by state regulations.
  • Previous experience working with children and adolescents, particularly in educational settings, preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to develop rapport with students and foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of speech and language development and associated disorders is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using technology for data collection and reporting.
