Job Description

Local Projects is seeking a curious and motivated Technical Design Intern to join our team and support the technical design of audio-visual systems in innovative exhibition design projects. This role offers hands-on experience designing AV solutions and working with creative teams, and digital tools to prototype, test, and deliver world-class interactive and immersive experiences. During this internship, you'll gain real-world project experience across the full exhibition design lifecycle, mentorship from experienced creative technology, design, and media professionals, exposure to interdisciplinary teams, tools, and technologies, and opportunities to contribute to innovative, high-impact cultural and brand experiences.

Please Note:

• Location: NYC Studio / Flexible 
• Commitment: Minimum of 3 months- Full Time (40 hours per week)
• Applicant must be eligible to work in the United States and hold their primary residence in one of these states: NY/NJ/CT/MD/DC/VA

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

• Draft technical designs and AV block diagrams using AutoCAD
• Model in Rhino 3D to support projection studies and technical design development
• Collaborate with designers to integrate audio-visual elements based on project goals
• Assist in the setup, testing, and maintenance of AV equipment for prototypes
• Support the creation of proof of concepts and functional mockups to test creative ideas and technical feasibility
• Troubleshoot issues related to audio, video, and interactive media displays
• Contribute to technical specifications and system documentation
• Assist in documenting and archiving AV setups and configurations
• Contribute to the design process, hardware/software specification, and requirements gathering
• Support research and testing of emerging technologies and tools
• Participate in VR previsualization and virtual prototyping using tools like Enscape

Skills:

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of quality and creativity
• Proficient in drafting technical designs in AutoCAD
• Proficient in Rhino 3D
• Basic understanding of AV equipment, including projectors, sound systems, and interactive displays
• Familiarity with software like TouchDesigner and/or Unity is a plus
• Programming experience with JavaScript and/or Python is a plus
• Proficiency in audio and video editing software is a plus
• Knowledge of VR tools and environments, such as Enscape, is a plus

Pay & Benefits
This role is paid at New York City’s current minimum wage, in full compliance with local labor laws.
